Summer soundtracks are essential for anybody who enjoys life. Particularly if you’re young and you have little to no responsibilities besides enjoying summer break. And if you are young enough to be on summer break, don’t take that shit for granted. “It won’t last baby, it never did it never have baby.” That’s a dope ass Roc Marciano lyric. I’ve posted about him on here, but not enough. Roc has some absolute summer anthems. Ok I got distracted.

Here are some tracks of the summer of 2024, though I’m finishing this article in November. I suck at this blog thing. I wanted a blog really bad until I made one. Now it’s work. Plus nobody likes to read. See below for some summer jamzzz bb.

TOKiMONSTA, Anderson .Paak, Rae Khalil

I had the song Summer Drop from .Paak and Cordae up here because it’s really a summer song and I used the thumbnail for this post, but this track is WAY better. Super underrated song that really went under the radar.

Blu & Exile, Rae Khalil, Ahmad Anwar – Suga & Buttaz

Blu is an underrated west coast legend. Exile is one of the dopest producers. If you don’t know Blu & Exile’s west coast classic Below The Heavens, you’re sleeping. Wake up! They reconnected this year to drop a really strong album, and this is maybe my favorite. Perfect track to chillax to.

Khrysis, Silent Snipers, & The Musalini – Somethin’ New

You’ve seen me write about Mu$ here before. Dude knows how to make summer anthems regardless of the weather. This is another smooth one in his catalog, and one I’d absolutely blast in a convertible while driving down the coast. That’s really the only criteria for a summer anthem. Would I play it with the roof down and a big ass joint while coasting at 5 MPH? Khrysis is a super underrated producer. This is dope.

igory, Flavors, Cultura – Stacking Clips

igory caught my ear when he was featured on this Adult Swim tape I think. He’s super dope. He collabed with two other hip-hop instrumental artists named Flavors and Cultura here. My last sentence should clue you into the fact that this is an instrumental. A super smooth instrumental by the way. This is one you’d wanna longboard through a beachy town too.

STAR G4A, GRIMM Doza – Mihara

This beat though. You’ve seen me post GRIMM Doza tracks on here if you’re really tapped into The Hip Pop Critic. I’m re-listening to this on a weeknight, and it’s making me wanna pull out the bong. I must refuse as I get weed hangovers. Yep, you read it right.

JasonMartin, DJ Quik, Wiz Khalifa, Channel Tres, Free Nationals,  George Clinton – TWO HI (WAVES)

JasonMartin, formerly known as Problem, is an underrated west coast rapper. His projects with DJ Quik are always unsurprisingly dope, as DJ Quik is a mofuckin’ legend. I won’t go into DJ Quik now, but yeah, this isn’t debatable. This song has an insane list of collaborators. George Clinton is one of the inventors of funk music. The Free Nationals are Anderson .Paak’s band and incredibly talented in their own right. Channel Tres is a dope vocalist, and Wiz is the king of summer anthems. You’ll love this one. Maybe the best one I’ve posted thus far.

Lupe Fiasco – Samurai

Lupe! His breakout song “Kick, Push” might be one of the greatest tracks to listen to in the summertime. “Samurai” is another excellent edition to the Lupe summer tracklist. I love this song. Didn’t love the rest of the tracks on this album. Oh well. This song alone was worth wading through the other tracks on it.

Jay Worthy & Dām FunK (feat. A-Trak, Ty Dolla $ign, Channel Tres, DJ Quik) – 105 West

Honestly this entire album should make the list. DāM FunK is one of the best west coast producers out there, and Jay Worthy is one of the best west coast artists. Makes sense that they did a full album together. This album will also be on my exclusive year end list. 105 West is the standout track though. West coast bomper here. Play this while you surf the waves brudda.

Britton Rauscher & Producedbydm – MIZZBEHAVING GEEMIX

I really don’t know who these guys are, but this song popped thanks to Spotify’s algorithm. Pure wave right here. This is some underrated smoking music. That’s a theme I’ve mentioned a few times, but most summer anthems are great with a joint. Of course, at the beach. Or in your parent’s basement. These songs are meant to make you feel good.

All of NxWorries 2

This will be top on my AOTY list, as it’s my favorite of the year. I couldn’t leave it off this page though, as it’s the ultimate summer album. I can’t think of a better album to play during the summer. Maybe ever. This is the ultimate, even more so than Denzel Curry. Dope reference by me right there, kudos to me.

DONE. You should be paying me for this stuff. Please comment if you want to pay me. This list is gold. I’m contributing to the world through music curation. You’re welcome! Have a nice day. Kisses. Oh wait it’s almost winter. Sigh.

The Author

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
