Eshu Tune (Hannibal Buress)

You rarely see someone with extreme success in their art pivot and seriously make a run at a completely different art form. Hannibal’s a wild man. I was very sad when he quit Eric Andre Show, but looks like his rap career had something to do with it, as he dove right into music not long after the news dropped.
I remember he had that verse with Open Mike Eagle almost a decade ago, and I never thought much about it, and never thought he would take rap seriously. He definitely does.
If he really wanted to pump his career he would just use his real name that brings fans with it, but he renamed himself Eshu Tune, which is also the name of his debut album.
The album features 8 tracks, four of which are fun and kinda like comedy, then four other tracks that are straight hip-hop. I love when rappers split their albums up, like how Danny Brown did on Old. So if you don’t like the first four tracks of Eshu Tune don’t give up. You’ll definitely enjoy the final four, if you actually like this music genre. Hearing Hannibal being serious is sort of weird, but it really works, and the production was surprisingly good. He still mixes in some jokes too, so don’t worry. Highly recommend.

About
The Author
I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
