Pusha T It’s Almost Dry

I was so busy in April that I didn’t hear this the day it came out, which just shows how busy I am. Normally I’d prep the bong, and sit with this album from start to finish, and get extremely hyped while listening. Then I’d wish I had a blog to give my opinion. Now I can!

I first heard this album a week or so after it came out, when I was driving through Maui with the windows down. I highly recommend listening to this album the same way. This isn’t something you want to listen to at home when you are alone.

Pusha T is always a top tier lyricist, and he has managed to secure excellent production throughout his career. It’s Almost Dry is produced exclusively by Pharrell and Kanye West. Pharrell (The Neptunes) has produced a lot of Pusha, having worked with him and his brother Malice in their group The Clipse back in the day.

Kanye produced all of Daytona for Pusha, which was one of his best solo efforts, so it makes perfect sense that him and Pharrell both produce this album. I’m a person who believes that production comes first. If the beat is bad, it’s not a good song, no matter how good the rapping is.

I hate to do this, but Pusha re-ordered the album and released it as Ye vs. Pharrell. Imo Pharrell beats Ye on here, him and Pusha are the perfect mix. Ye still brings it though. This album is super fun. Pusha brings it as always, and I’d say it’s the most consistent and quality release of his career.  How this man continues to rap at this high of a level defies gravity, but King Push’s reign will possibly continue into his geriatric years, which I will be here for. Definitely a classic album, and will be an AOTY contender for certain.

My favorite tracks on here:  “Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes”, “Just So You Remember”, “Call My Bluff”, “Open Air”, “Neck & Wrist”.

The Author

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
