YouTube Relics: Little Brother – Braggin & Boasting

If you claim hip-hop and you aren’t hip to Little Brother, then you must be sleeping under a cock! I mean rock. Anyways, Little Brother is maybe the only hip-hop group to form after the 90’s that maintained the essence of hip-hop in its purest form. Little Brother is the shit. Their debut album The Listening is literally in my top 5 hip-hop albums of all-time… I don’t throw that word around lightly. On some day it’s my #1.

This track above was recorded shortly after The Listening came out. It’s produced by a group called The Sound Providers, who gave I no credit in the title, which is kind of messed up in hindsight, but without Little Brother on the beat, this would just be a pleasant instrumental. But man, is it pleasant. This beat makes me relax my puckered butthole and just chill, and Phonte and Big Pooh (the members of Little Brother aka LB) ride this beat like a man at a Diddy party with Diddy’s girl covered in baby oil. That’s a weird awkward way to say smoothly.

This YouTube Relic series as I mentioned before is literally for me, so I don’t lose track of classic tracks that I love that are only on YouTube. So here’s another one in the series!

Little Brother is on their final tour EVER this year, go see them if you don’t suck. Their discog is amazing, so also feel free to dive in. Trust me, you have nothing more rewarding to do with your time. That’s not a judgment of you, more so an endorsement of Little Brother’s greatness.

About

The Author

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
