Marty Supreme – The Best Movie of 2025?

I have a Mexican homie that isn’t named Chinese Mike (they cannot be trusted) who told me to watch Pluribus, the show that’s been advertised to shit as the big Vince Gilligan follow up to Breaking Bad. I was planning to watch it already as I have a one month Apple TV trial going on, but he pushed me to accelerate my timeline. And man, that show is really fucking bad so far, as I’m at episode 8 of 9. Neat concept sure, but it’s slower than the speed my penis rises for wifey (marriage will do that to you). Anyways, he also said I had to go watch Marty Supreme, and I took that with a big grain of fucking salt, but Marty Supreme was also on my list given one half of the Safdie brothers directed and wrote it (also Ronald Bronstein was a co-writer who also co-wrote their most popular films).

This movie is living proof that Mexicans can be right half of the time. Marty Supreme is what will probably be labeled by retarded Gen Z as Safdiecore, as they like to add core to everything to make it a subgenre. By Safdiecore, I mean it’s extremely intense, with nonstop action and a mesmerizing score that simultaneously disarms you and also inserts dread into your soul. It feels like a spiritual sequel to Uncut Gems, but far more refined from my perspective.

Before it’s labeled Safdiecore, I’m labeling it the best movie of 2025, though I must admit I haven’t seen every Oscar darling this year. This movie is everything…. the perfect theater film. I thought One Battle After Another was great in theaters, this was 10x better in my opinion. Where One Battle After Another was corny and preachy, Marty Supreme was wild, original, and unhinged. This is truly fearless filmmaking, an instant classic.

If this movie doesn’t win a few Oscars, then I’ll just assume it’s because the lead was white, as that isn’t cool now, but long live Chalamet. Dude knocked this out of the park. Gwyneth Paltrow was fantastic as well, and so was the chick from I Love LA, and Tyler the Creator was surprisingly good as well. The screenplay though, and the direction… magnificent. There are some scenes in here that will stick with you long after the movie. I refuse to do any spoilers here, so just trust me.

Some of the comedic one liners in here are brilliant too. One in particular reminds me of the greatest line in Superbad, the one about Seth’s back being on his cock. This movie is far more enjoyable than the Safdie brother’s previous monster of a film Uncut Gems, but it still has that same manic pace to it.

I don’t really have anything to say besides go see this movie if you like movies. It’s a movie’s movie. I must thank my Mexican brother for pointing me in the right direction. I still don’t trust his taste for the most part, but this wonderful piece of filmmaking has given me some hope that someday I will.

This movie was the first thing to inspire me art-wise in a long time. I loved this fucking movie. Go see it now in theaters you bussy queef.

I enjoyed uncut gems though it wasn’t my favorite style of film-making / storytelling. I much prefer dennis villanueva and villanuevacore to safdiecore.

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
