The album title alone deserves massive kudos. I literally live by this credo, you must give you flowers to the people you love or respect while they are still alive. Huey Briss is easily top 5 best artist on the West Coast right now, bold statement right?

Well Huey backs it up. His catchphrase/slogan is “Briss Don’t Miss”, which doesn’t require any explanation. I would be the first to call him out if he did miss, cause I always try to keep it real, but he literally has NEVER slipped and made a bad track. The one time he tried to make a mainstream hit, it was honestly a banger. I thought this track would blow him up tbh.

The game works in mysterious ways, ultimately to make it big you have to buy the blogs, or hustle so hard that people can’t deny you. Huey is hustling, he’s dropped 3 classics the last 3 years (Grace Park Legend, Wishing Out Loud, and now this). I’m going to soon do a write up on Briss past work, but let’s focus on today’s masterpiece he dropped.

Usually he taps in with Niko Beatz, who has given him some amazing soundscapes to work over, but for Flowers Before The Grave, Huey tapped in with a producer named Walt I didn’t know, which had me concerned, but Huey clearly knows what he is doing. I won’t doubt him again.

Album opener “God Vision” is the ultimate album opener from a title and lyrical standpoint. I could quote bar after bar here, but that’s not my job. Next track “Six Figures” is the hip-hop track of today, as inflation has made a six figure income into a five figure income, you really have to have at least 3 million in assets to be wealthy (in my eyes). Not gonna go into each track, but there are 0 skips here. 2416 Pasadena Ave is such a personal track, if you like that stuff.

If you love smooth west coast raps, you are probably listening to that new Larry June Alchemist album, but I promise you this album is just as smooth, and 100x more lyrical. Larry June is just a vibe, albeit a very nice one. Huey also has the same West Coast vibe, but is also brilliant lyrically. Again, if you consider yourself a west-coast type, this is your perfect album. Play it in the car with the windows down on a sunny day, or just vibing at home, just play the damn thing and let Huey do the talking not me!

Hi, I think your website might be having browser compatibility
issues. When I look at your blog in Opera, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer,
it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up!
    Other then that, excellent blog!

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
