The greatest stand-up of all-time? Rhetorical question btw.

Norm MacDonald is the greatest and most pleasing YouTube wormhole that exists. If you find laughter to be pleasing, which I do. I chose the picture you see on the left because this is how many people remember Norm, from his 5 year stint on Saturday Night Live. Sadly I was not aware of him during that time, as I was between the age of 3-8 then, and was busy balling up kids on the playground like a young MJ and kissing my kindergarten girlfriend. I had game on and off the court back then, now my game is on par with an incel’s, so luckily I’m married.

Where does one even start with Norm MacDonald? It’s impossible to summarize the man in one article, as I have pored over nearly every Norm MacDonald article that exists. It’s hard to get any of Norm’s essence in words, though he was able to do so himself in his memoir “Based On A True Story”, which I put up there as my favorite memoir, just edging out Swimming Across by Andrew S. Grove.  In Norm’s memoir’s foreword, Louis CK writes that Norm is top 5 no debate. #1 is also not a debate in my eyes.

If you want to even begin to understand the man, the myth, the legend, you must begin the odyssey on YouTube.

Honestly, it’s really hard to write anything on Norm,  and I’m not sure anyone is technically qualified enough to fully describe Norm’s greatness. On Netflix, Adam Sandler, Conan O’Brien, Dave Chappelle, Molly Shannon, and David Spade did a roundtable just after Norm died to eulogize Norm and discuss his style, but it felt to me that nobody full captured it. The only person who does Norm justice is Norm. My favorite joke in the history of man is his infamous Dirty Johnny joke, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GskNV_XRZvU&t=10s.

If you didn’t enjoy this joke at all, your sense of humor is probably very basic, and I beg you to permanently fuck off from my site, this is my online territory, and I piss all over it like an un-neutered cat or a dumb dog.

The Author

I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
