A$AP Rocky’s Best Loosies
I love A$AP Rocky on some gay shit. I told my mom when in 2011 or 2012 that if I could switch bodies with anyone it’d be A$AP. She questioned me, as she always does. Moms. Anyways, given that he put two babies in Rihanna, I was obviously right.
Now because of this first paragraph you prob think I’m a dickrider, or as the trans Gen Z kids say, a glazer. Would a glazer come out and say his new album Don’t Be Dumb is a fuckin’ pile of dogshit? No! I’m a realist and a purist when it comes to this music stuff.
A$AP Rocky from 2011-2015 was a legendary run, back when his production matched his flow. Testing in 2018 had some moments, but as evidenced by Don’t Be Dumb, I think that was the last glimmer of hope from one of my favorite rappers ever. RIP to the A$AP Rocky I knew and loved.
Anyways, with his new album being donkey balls (I mean that in a bad way, though I’m team donkey balls usually), I thought I’d give the good people some of A$AP’s best tracks over the years that either didn’t make it to an album or were features. That’s what I call a loosie, hell if I know what loosie really means.
You have to take my word that the song titles are linked to his songs and not gay porn, but that’d be a dope prank. I’ll keep that one in my back pocket.
A$AP Rocky – Back To The Future
This is my favorite A$AP song ever. Why? Hell if I know. I love everything about it. The swag oozes out of this track. I’m proud of using the word ooze, even though it isn’t a big word. This song is perfection if you ask me… just like the word ooze. People who say that it’s impossible for something to be perfect just don’t have good taste.
A$AP Rocky – Hear Me (Produced by Pharrell Williams)
Wow, there’s a Pharrell produced A$AP Rocky song with only 400k views?! Yeah… I remember when this thing dropped without any fanfare. I was surprised then and I still am today. This song is one of the dopest in A$AP’s entire catalog. A$AP grabs this track by the throat as soon as he opens his mouth on this one. Sheeeesh.
Another absolute banger that seems to utilize some instrument belonging to either the Middle East or India. I’ll bet you could charm a cobra to this song, or at least make that fucker dance. I always loved this when it dropped, and I still do today. I’m at three classics in a row on this list, catch up! This song is harder than… never mind. Just know it’s hard.
A$AP Rocky feat. Lana Del Rey – Ridin
If Lana was hotter I’m convinced A$AP would’ve put a baby in her based on their chemistry here. Shit he probably smashed back in the day anyways. This is another classic A$AP track that dropped a long time ago, and one that I’ve played out. On paper these two collaborating makes zero sense, but on wax it’s magic. You’ll love this one. It’s a perfect collab. Lana might not have the sexiest face in the world, but she’s damned cute and her voice is as sultry as a cat’s purr. I couldn’t think of a good metaphor for something that’s sultry as you can tell.
A$AP Rocky feat. Juicy J – Multiply
How this banger didn’t end up on an album befuddles, perplexes, and perturbs me. That was a lame way of saying WTF! This is the banger of bangers… I’ve blacked out many a times to this anthem from copious amounts of alcohol backw when I used to be young and fun. The chorus is also true, the real ones always die, and it seems the lame ones multiply. Classic one, turn the bass up for this one, and try not to hurt anyone, because this one makes me wanna clap my enemies.
This track makes me wanna sip some Robitussin like the good ol’ days in high school. Although I’m sure A$AP had actual lean and probably wasn’t chugging cough syrup from CVS. This song is maybe the slowest of all I’ve posted thus far, but also still dope. The first 5 tracks above though are my top 5 on this list.
This isn’t even a real A$AP song, it’s a fan made beat with A$AP lyrics. I don’t even know where the lyrics came from, but the fan who made this created an absolute banger. I’ve only heard this once all the way through today, but it made the list, and it will stay on the list. This is also living proof that A$AP needs a better ear for beats if his fans are picking better beats than him… sigh. This sounds like a great A$AP track tbh. Kudos to the fan who made this.
A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams – Disturbing The P
This song is unreleased, though it debuted at a fashion show recently. It’s a summer anthem, so maybe they’ll release it in a few months formally. I’d play this if I still lived in Cali, but I don’t, so my life sucks now. Whoever says California is overrated is a fool. It’s worth every food stamp.
Chief Keef feat. A$AP Rocky – Superheroes
This is really a Chief Keef song, but I’m guessing a lot of A$AP fans haven’t heard it, so you’re welcome. It’s a banger. Wait 5 seconds for the beat to drop, cream your pants, then hit me up and I’ll teach you how to clean up your pants (I’m a pro at this stuff.).
Brent Faiyaz feat. A$AP Rocky & N3WYRKLA – Outside All Night
This is one for the ladies cause Brent Faiyaz knows how to make them panties drip by singing about hella corny shit. I can’t lie, he even makes my penis tingle. A$AP’s flow works great over this girly beat… shit his flow works well over damn near any beat. Except the ones on his new album.. eek.
A$AP Ant & A$AP Rocky – The God Hour
Anyone who studies my blog (wise elders) knows I’m an A$AP Ant stan. This might’ve been the song that hooked me. I can’t remember what introduced me to A$AP Ant to be honest, but this song is pure A$AP, and I mean that in the best way possible. It gives me early A$AP Mob banger vibes. Great song with high replay value. Rocky absolutely stomps the chorus, like he did that autistic stalker kid in Sweden.
Free Nationals, A$AP Rocky, Anderson .Paak – Gangsta
A$AP and Anderson .Paak collaborating was not on my bucket list bingo card. I guess I’m no prophet, though I will put a jihad on you Muhammad style if you don’t like this song. Really every song on this list is damned good, and I’m proud of myself for curating such a special list for my readers.
A$AP Rocy X Tyler The Creator – Potato Salad
This one’s too mainstream for this list. Oh well, it’s a solid little track where A$AP and Tyler go back and forth over a simple and enjoyable beat. This track is good. I don’t think it’s great, but worth a listen.
Blood Orange feat. A$AP Rocky & Project Pat – Chewing Gum
Skip to 3:20 on this song for Rocky! I’ve never gotten into Blood Orange, though my “buddy” showed me them when I was smoking weed after my first crazy ass shitty EDM festival back in 2013. I put buddy in quotes because Kirk was/is a lil’ rich boy douchebag who thinks he’s cooler than he is. I sound petty. Oh well. Devonte Hynes is the leader of the band and pretty sure he is the producer and singer. Tbh I don’t love his part of the song or care for it, just listen to me and skip to 3:20!
Hanumankind x A$AP Rocky – Big Dawgs.
I guess Hanumankind is blowing up, but I don’t know anything about him. A$AP came to bless his standout single, and A$AP rips it. Fun beat, but not one of my favorites here. Still worth including imo.
Schoolboy Q feat. A$AP Rocky – Hands On The Wheel
When this song first came out it blew my fucking mind. I thought it was the dopest shit ever. Now it’s just a distant memory. Is it a great track? I don’t know. It hasn’t aged all that well for me. It’s just not as epic as I remember it to be in my younger years. I guess this sound was new at the time though, idk.
This was better than any song on his new album, but he released it as a single a year before. I held off on listening because I wanted to hear the album with virgin ears, but then he didn’t even include this on the album! What a banger!!! This is the A$AP I love… excellent cloud rap style beat and Rocky dominates it. I put this and HIGHJACK at the bottom because they’re newer, but they slap like the rest of em near the top!
A$AP Rocky ft. Jessica Pratt – HIGHJACK
Another banger of a single that I held off until the album for, because again I gave A$AP the ultimate respect and tried to not listen to any singles before the album, which wasn’t easy. This one, just like Tailor Swif, is WAY BETTER than anything on his new album. Sigh. This track is a fuckin beast. I love it. The beat is so dope, and A$AP is A$AP. The king. There’s a reason he pulled Rihanna.
FINAL THOTS:
If you read this far, you’re a real A$AP fan. Kudos. Guessing that I showed you something new here, even if you’re a hardcore fan of Rocky’s. While his new album Don’t Be Dumb is the most disappointing release since Tame Impala took 6 years to release the weak ass sequel to Currents, I’d like to believe that Rocky still has some potential to touch his old output, as “Tailor Swif” and “HIGHJACK” show he can still do it. He just needs A$AP Yams to come back from the dead and pick his beats. It’s no coincidence that A$AP’s beat selection fell off after his mans died. Long live Yams.
About
The Author
I wrote this blog for a few reasons. One is because nobody in my circle of friends ever puts me on to music or things that are dope that I haven't heard about (step your game up friends!) as few people nerd out as hard as me on the dumb things I focus on. The other and main reason is because I am so tired of The NeedleDrop and Pitchfork, from the way Fantano talks about music, to the way that Pitchfork writes about it. Both cause me physical pain to read or watch, yet I for some reason occasionally check their review scores, because they are the only sites I know that do stay on top of music (to a degree), and they focus on genres that I'm not tapped into, so occasionally I find something good. Is it worth the pain? No. So let me save you the pain, by only sharing with you my favorites, and maybe you'll find a new favorite. Oh and I also love talking shit, so I'll do that too, but this blog is about showing love to great art.
